Welcome from the Vicar
Welcome to the historic Church of St Mary
Churches such as ours are perhaps the only historic buildings in the city that have been regularly used since their construction, for the purpose in which they were originally designed. For one purpose or another, this means almost daily usage since 1860. Literally thousands of local Heathcote and Mt Pleasant people have been baptised, attended regular worship, confirmed, married and farewelled from within our walls. Historically for many individuals, the Church of St Mary is the place where all of these sacramental actions have occurred throughout their lives.
You’re welcome to join us as this journey of life in the Heathcote and Mt Pleasant suburbs continues. Services are modern, vibrant and designed to challenge individual’s in the Anglican tradition, to explore their faith journey personally, in the midst of a supportive and loving environment.
About Me!
I was born and bred in Christchurch and relocated to New Plymouth, where I was ordained in 1995. I moved to Auckland shortly after when Sue and I married. We have a family of three, the eldest Tim is an aircraft engineer (currently a propulsion engineer at Rocketlab) our middle son Hamish is a commercial pilot (working in Queenstown) and our daughter Georgia (Geo) who is working in event planning after completing a commerce degree.
I served my curacy in the parishes of New Plymouth and Ellerslie-Mt Wellington before moving overseas to Melbourne as Associate Priest in the Parish of South Yarra. Upon return to Auckland, I was appointed Vicar of Royal Oak, then Vicar of Remuera.
A relocation to Christchurch in 2017 was a move home to familiar territory. It is great to lead this warm, friendly and progressive Anglican Community of Faith.
